Recruitment may close at any time.Under supervision, Electricians perform skilled work installing, altering, maintaining, and repairing traffic signals and streetlights, underground circuits, aerial service connections, electrical systems, electrical equipment, programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), VFD’s, lighting systems, pumping stations, and associated equipment. This position may require incumbents to perform standby duty on a rotating basis.Vacancies exist in the Public Works Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City’s discretion. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver’s license and current copy of their driving record.Depending upon assignment, may be required to obtain a valid California Commercial Class B Driver’s License without airbrake restriction within 6 months of appointment and maintain the commercial driver’s license for the entire term of employment in this class.Eligible considered for hire will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment with the City of Fresno.Some positions have been designated as being ‘safety sensitive’ and require those offered employment to successfully pass a drug test prior to employment. Federal law requires that applicants for positions involving the operation of certain transit vehicles, revenue service vehicles, the transportation of hazardous materials, or heavy equipment over 26,001 pounds requiring a commercial driver’s license, must undergo pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list. The Written Exam is to be determined.Those candidates certified to the eligible list may be required to participate in a Departmental Skills Demonstration as part of the department selection process.Veteran Preference RegulationsCandidates applying for veteran’s preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran’s preference credit is requested.
