Physician (Assistant Chief of Medicine)

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.

The Assistant Chief of Medicine will support the Chief of Medicine in performing clinical and administrative management of Department of Medicine.

The ACOM will assist in duties that include but are not limited to:
Development and implementation of a comprehensive healthcare delivery system in coordination with the VHA Mission; Maintaining a collaborative partnership with all other service chiefs and leadership at VACCHCS; Oversight of the various sections within the service and ensure they are compliant with VHA policy; Maintain privileges and practice in his/her specialty field; Ensuring high quality patient care is delivered in a resource efficient manner; Promoting the development of healthcare professionals within the service; Participating in the selection of qualified professional staff and ensure that recruitment and hiring meets VA and academic affiliation requirements; Participating and assisting with monthly staff meetings; Ensuring that appropriate systems are in place to review, analyze, and evaluate patient care activities; Monitoring and tracking performance measures under Medicine Services scope of practice; Monitoring and ensuring each section’s staff are in compliance with VA, Joint Commission and all other pertinent regulations/policies as appropriate; U.S.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:
Board Certified in one of the following medical specialties: Dermatology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious disease, Cardiology
Active practice to qualify for privileges
Teaching experience and ability to obtain a faculty appointment with our academic affiliates
Experience with high reliability organizations, process improvement and high value healthcare
Candidates with MBA or MHA would be desirable
Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position.

A physical examination prior to placement is required.

This is a designated drug testing position.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx.

2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling.

Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.

Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors.

Hearing aid is permitted.
