Broadcast Engineer

Responsibilities: Cheddar News is seeking a Broadcast Engineer to improve and maintain our broadcast control room technology and provide overall technical support to a 24/7 video streaming and production facility.

The Broadcast Engineer is a highly organized, detail oriented, and self-motivated individual with outstanding communication, engineering and production skills.

While the position will be part of the Engineering and Operations team, this hands-on role requires the ability to work closely with production and editorial staff to troubleshoot issues and improve production workflows.

The Broadcast Engineer must be proactive in identifying and executing new projects and covering preventive maintenance and system/workflow upgrades.

The shift for this position begins at 5:30am, Monday through Friday and will work on site at Cheddar’s HQ at 1 State Street in Manhattan.

Roles and Responsibilities:Ensure that all technical aspects of the broadcast facility are in working order including troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of broadcast equipment, computers, and IP networks in a 24/7 news environmentAbility to rapidly diagnose audio/video system and IT problems, and provide alternative solutions if needed to maintain production deadlinesParticipate and contribute to the design, development and deployment of complex broadcast video/audio and IT production equipment and systemsTroubleshoot day to day production system issues including Video Routers, Ross XPression Graphics, Ross Carbonite Switchers, Imagine Nexio playout and ingest servers, RTS intercom systems, digital audio consoles, and moreCreate processes and workflows to ensure control room crews are supported and live broadcasts run smoothlyAssist in finding innovative ways to improve on-air production capabilities and workflowsEnable and contribute to a culture that creates an environment where staff can do their best workCheddar News is a 24/7/365 business and this role requires an on-call shift rotation to support broadcast emergenciesOccasional night or weekend work required on a project basis Qualifications: 3-5 years experience in broadcast engineering and live video production with a proven ability to configure and troubleshoot broadcast production systemsProactive, dynamic, flexible, self-starter with a positive attitude who is able to learn new systems or equipment on their own where requiredMust be knowledgeable in all areas of technical production including repair, configuration, and operation of studio production equipment including Broadcast Audio, Video and Control Systems, Video Servers, Storage Area Networks, RF Systems, Editing, Post Production Systems, and Master Control playout software/hardware.Intermediate computer/IT skills, including experience with networking, subnets, IP configuration, and Windows, Linux, Mac OS operating systemsExperience troubleshooting complex audio, video, and IP signal flowsExperience with Newsroom Computer systems like AP ENPS and associated MOS graphics and playout workflows a plusAbility to function well under pressure, i.e.
